In the beginning of November our nurses and doctors took part in a two week training course organised by a former Surgery Nurse Manager, Tamara van Schijndel and her two Dutch colleagues Janneke van Schaijk and Jessica van Beek.

The training course involved learning the theory and practice of the ABCDE method.

The Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure (ABCDE) approach is a systematic approach to the immediate assessment and treatment of critically ill or injured patients. The approach is applicable in all clinical emergencies and used by doctors and nurses.

Our participants attended:

  • Introduction and theory
  • Training ABCDE method
  • Review ABCDE method (questions and answers)
  • Practical exam ABCDE method

Participants also gained access to a digital learning environment which makes it possible for them to continue practicing and studying the method even though the training has ended.

The nurses all passed their exams and other members of staff received training in practical assistance.

Thank you Tamara, Janneke and Jessica.
